NDIS Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessments & Reports

Port Macquarie Occupational Therapy regularly conducts Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessments and Reports for individuals who are NDIS participants. These assessments are used to gain a thorough understanding of an individual's strengths, difficulties, areas in which they have capacity to improve and areas in which they would like to build their independence and participation.

Our Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessments include an in person or telehealth appointment in which we ascertain the relevant details that the NDIS requires. We make our recommendations in the report in line with current NDIS funding categories.

When conducting the Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment we use NDIS recognised assessments such as the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS) to ensure that the information we are collecting in these assessments is relevant to the information the NDIS requires to provide funding.

How will you know if an Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment/Report is suitable/helpful for you?

One reason an Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment is conducted is when an NDIS participant's plan is due for review or the NDIS participant is requesting a review of their goals and needs for their new NDIS plan.  The aim of the Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment and Report is to provide more information to the NDIS regarding the individual's strengths, difficulties and Occupational Therapy recommendations to ensure that they are provided with the appropriate amount of funding to achieve their NDIS goals.

We also conduct Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessments and Reports when NDIS participants experience a significant ‘Change in Circumstance’ that results in them requiring additional funding or support to achieve their NDIS goals.

Functional capacity refers to an individual’s ability to be involved in life situations and to execute tasks or actions, with and without assistance (assistive devices and/or personal assistance). Information regarding impairment(s) and environmental factors, and how they impact the individual’s function is included when assessing functional capacity.” (Independent Assessment Framework, August 2020).

It would be strongly recommended that if you require this service to please contact us 3-4 months prior to the end of your current NDIS plan. This allows for the completion of the Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment and Report and its submission to the NDIS for their consideration prior to building and issuing your new NDIS plan.

If you have any questions or would like to book an Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessments and Reports, please contact us.
